LOCATION: The location of this hotel is great for being close to Little Tokyo shops and restaurants. I recommend the Little Tokyo Historic Society walking tour if you want to learn more about this historic area. The Miyako hotel is our preferred hotel in this area but was fully booked. VIEW: We were given a surprise high floor double queen room which was very nice! The view was a highlight and included the garden below and expansive city sky line. It was almost like an observation deck. We even saw a giant rainbow the morning we left! BED: No complaints, very comfortable. Nice sheets. CLEANLINESS: Although the hotel is a bit dated, the cleaning staff did a wonderful job. A/C: Perfect. HOTEL PARKING: Safe, easy, and plentiful, even thought the hotel was full.

NOISE: The hotel seemed to be doing some renovation work across the hall from our room, but we never heard any noise from that. Hopefully they are upgrading the rooms because the curtains were a little stained on the window side and generally the room could use a refresh. The windowsill had wooded tracks perhaps because they used to have Japanese sliding screens, but now there is just the worn blackout curtains, no sheer curtain. The street noise was pretty loud. I live in a downtown area and I am accustomed to the noise of sirens, traffic, people, etc., but even though we were on a high floor, the single pane windows did little to block the street/helicopter noise. It was as if there was no window at all. I was woken up at 5 AM by someone screaming on the street despite using ear plugs. Also, someone was screaming obscenities when I was walking back from just 1 block away around 9 PM, which was stressful. Walking alone at late night around the hotel is not recommended, but otherwise it's a vibrant historic neighborhood with a great vibe. OVERALL: Satisfactory. I might stay again especially if they update the rooms. We generally prefer the Miyako hotel until then.

Lobby and Garden looks nice

Bathrooms are small. Coffee maker and included coffees were cheap value. No complimentary breakfast. Charging for breakfast is ridiculous. No microwave in the living is ridiculous. Having one microwave available for all guest and its location being all the way downstairs in the market is unacceptable.

Very good views from high storeys. Well located for Union Station (our reason for choosing it) and the Olvera St. Mexican market. Staff very friendly and the concierge exceptional. All told, pretty good for DTLA - very sadly missing the fabulous Ace Hotel, RIP.

Some things a little frayed: power point not working, coffee machine needed replacing.
