I have stayed in a few hostels, and have never felt as uncomfortable as I did at the garden hostel. There were multiple older men who seemed to live there, making it an unsafe hostel for a female solo traveler. I used the bathroom upstairs because the one on my floor was out of order, and one of the male workers got in my face and yelled at me for being on a different floor. The sheets were stained. The rooms smelt moldy. The toilet had no seat. The shower had no hot water. It was nothing like pictured online. Located next to a brothel.
The location is excellent, a very safe area (even at night). You can walk to the main street in 15 minutes. I didn't use any transportation. I felt more comfortable in the hostel than in a hotel room. The manager of the place, NUNU, is an amazing person. If I come to Porto again, the only place I will stay is GERDEN IN TOWN HOSTEL!!!
