Guest reviews

My wife and I stayed in a master suite ocean view, swim out over Christmas and New Year’s. The room was the highlight of our trip. You have full sun from sun up till about 1 o’clock without having to go early morning to try to save chairs around the preferred pool. Probably the most negative thing of our trip was the layout or design of the resort. From our room to where most of the restaurants are was a 10 minute walk. Because of that, we only ate at the buffet one time. It was easier to order room service. Room service would get to your room before you could walk and walk back. That is another issue, communication/language barrier, trying to order a pot of decaf and regular coffee was never carried out correctly. We always ended up with one pot of coffee and one pot of hot water. Ordering a simple eggs over easy bacon and hash brown breakfast turned into a three course meal by the time they added fruit, rolls and sausage. Our opinion that was just a waste of food since we hardly ever touched it. That said, all the restaurants gave you generally more food than you could finish. Teppanyak table was our favorite and does require reservations. Also, without the show you get the same type of Asian food at the Meraki and a little different assortment of food. Tierra and El Patio tied for our second favorite restaurants. And seriously, we did not have any food that was that we’d consider bad. We were probably the most disappointed in the Italian restaurant, Portofino’s. Believe it or not we found one of the fastest hottest good bar. Food was at the food truck by the preferred bar and preferred pool. Just a nice afternoon snack between lunch and dinner. Lotta questions is preferred over non-preferred worth it. In our opinion, yes the butler does take care of a few things that otherwise takes your time away from having fun. The liquor is definitely top shelf and what’s really nice is they do have two preferred bars where they’ll ask your room number when you go in and you get a lot more personalized one on one service. We found all the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful as best they could with the language barrier. Only a few times the bartenders seem to be more interested in carrying on a conversation than taking care of you, but I think that’s going to be expected anywhere to a certain degree. Sorry, we cannot really comment on the beach other than we did walk down there and sand feels good. Appears to be plenty of chairs, but very wavy when we’re there. The swim up at our room and all the pools water on the cold side. Until around two or three in the afternoon if it was the sunny day. But it is December. Overall, the resort was a good experience. The room was the highlight of our trip. The food definitely was great. The total atmosphere of the personnel in the resort was very positive. The biggest negative was the layout of the relationship of the rooms to the restaurants. Because of that we probably will not be back to this particular resort.

My wife and I are just returning from Secrets Tides having spent a week from 27/12/25-03/01/26. We both enjoyed ourselves very much and were happy with our choice of this Resort. We stayed in a Preferred Room on the 4th floor of building 1. Overall, the Resort is quite impressive being only 2 years old. It was very clean, modern and very picturesque. We spent most of our days at the Preferred Pool and yes, I did throw a couple of towels over chairs before going to breakfast in the morning. Although, our first day we had no trouble getting chairs around this pool without reserving them. We used the gym facilities every morning as well and found it to be a very functional and modern area. We don’t consider ourselves “foodies” in any way and did enjoy our meals at all the restaurants. Our best meal was at the Meraki where we just sat in the restaurant rather than trying to reserve the show at the Hibachi. We also really enjoyed the steak and lobster for New Year’s Eve that we had at the Seaside Grill. Everyone who works here try their absolute best to make your time extremely enjoyable. Whether they’re cleaning, serving drinks or entertaining I got the feeling that they really appreciated your stay here. The beach is spectacular as well with powdery brown sand. The water is very wavy and makes for great body surfing. There is a calmer portion allowing for simple wading into the ocean as well. There are vendors on the beach, but they never hassled anyone to purchase their wares and a simple, “no gracias”, and they would move on. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and would return.

Our stay at Secrets Tides Punta Cana was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless, relaxing, and exceeded our expectations. Our butler Yulian absolutely made the entire experience. He helped accommodate our every need with so much care, attention, and professionalism, and consistently delivered far beyond what we ever expected. No request ever felt like too much, and he was always one step ahead, making sure everything was perfect before we even had to ask. His thoughtfulness, responsiveness, and genuine kindness made us feel incredibly special the entire stay. Yulian went above and beyond in the most meaningful ways, including surprising us with the most beautiful engagement setup with roses on the floor, bed, and in the hot tub, plus a “Just Engaged” banner on our door. It was such a heartfelt and unforgettable moment that we will cherish forever. If you are staying in the Preferred Members Club, request Yulian without hesitation. Also, make sure to stop by the Preferred Lounge and visit Felix for a cocktail. He makes the best passionfruit margaritas and is such a pleasure to be around. Truly the best. 10 out of 10 recommend this hotel. We will definitely be coming back. An absolutely perfect stay from start to finish.

My wife and I stayed at Punta Cana Secret Tides over the December 2025 Christmas Break. We had a very good first impression when entering the property. Resort is new, expansive and clean. The room was fresh, clean and quite modern. The grounds and pools were amazing. However, there are some significant problems with this resort. The biggest is food quality. In this aspect, the resort has to do better. Chips and hot dog at the barefoot grill were very stale and old. The steak at the grill was so tough we could not cut it with steak knives, The bisque at the seafood restaurant was so uneatable that us and our neighboring table returned it. The Asian restaurant was okay (not great) and same with the buffet. The second largest problem was inter-department coordination and communication. Here, we saw a series of misses. The best example was on our first night. The front desk told us during check in that no reservations to the restaurants were required. We came to learn for our first night (Dec 24) all restaurants required reservations. Also, food concierge did not know all restaurants for that night had the same set menu. Minor problems also included, non existent pool staff (Me and other patrons opted to just getting drinks from the bars ourselves) and the overall impression that asking anything from staff was seen as a inconvenience to them. Overall, Punta Cana Secret Tides is NOT a high end resort. The problems above need attention. We have been to significantly better resorts for the money.

We visited for 5 days right before Christmas. Upgraded to the Preferred Club for the drinks, pool and butler service. The good: super nice property. Butler service was personalized and genuinely warm. Helpful. For example I was extremely underwhelmed by the powdered Tang they call orange juice at breakfast, said something to my butler and she arranged for natural juice for my stay. Appreciated that. The bad: pretty mediocre food all around. Breakfast got better with real juice, but most meals just felt uninspired - except the Peruvian restaurant which was excellent. Ugly: I gave my wife a new diamond ring for Christmas and after that she put her old ring in the gift box. My bad for not putting in the safe, but it disappeared from our room. Then on the last day the hotel arranged a car service to take us to the airport. That $250 service was overcharged by a factor of 10 ($2,500) absolute robbery and two weeks later there is no resolution. The hotel didn’t charge me but they did arrange the service, implicitly vouching for it, and through their actions I was robbed twice on the same trip. For these reasons I would offer this experience 2.5 out of 10 but I have to round down for the lack of follow up and attention to being scammed out of $10k in diamonds and fraudulent charges

Stayed at Secrets Tides in preferred club from 12/21-12/26.I've been going to Punta Cana since the 90's and stayed at many different resorts from low end to high end. Secrets Tides was a disappointment to me and my family. I'll start with: Pros - beautiful resort, clean, modern, beach was nice, plenty of chairs by pool and beach, daily and nightly entertainment, our preferred club room was nice and butler was attentive, check-in was a breeze. Cons - staff was not all that attentive, many just standing around chatting with each other while I'm trying to get a drink. The restaurants in my opinion were terrible!!!! The service and quality of the food for a Hyatt property was very disapppointing! We were booked for a Christmas Eve reservation at the Oceanana and it took an hour and a half just to get a glass of wine and an appetizer. It was a pre-fixed menu and we did not even get the items that were listed in the menu. Had to ask for our wine multiple times before we received it. Then instead of a shrimp appetizer a lobster app came out instead but was not even fully cooked! All of the customers in the retaurant experienced the same issues and half of them walked out before there main dish came. Went to the buffet instead and was much better. Oh! The constant vendors walking up and down the beach wanting us to purchase their items. It was non-stop. Some resorts do not allow vendors like this bothering people all day long. What about allowing them for a couple hours a day to sell their stuff??! Understand these people are trying to earn a living but this should not be allowed all day long when we are just trying to relax and do not want to be bothered. Secrets Tides must have a management problem there because nothing is consistent. It was a shame considering the price we paid and again this resort was beautiful but they have work to do with the staff and the restaurants being what we experienced.

AVOID- Coercive and Threatening Treatment of Guests. We have travelled extensively and until this stay, never had a bad travel experience. This situation was shocking and deeply distressing. At check-in, the hotel highlighted a booking error (1 guest instead of 2). We accepted responsibility and agreed to pay the difference. However, they demanded an additional $1,750 USD, far higher than prices showing on reputable booking sites. This felt exploitative and unreasonable. Despite showing the cheaper online rates, the hotel refused to match them. They showed no empathy, laughed at us, and then began to show aggression when we hesitated paying. After prolonged pressure, they offered a so-called discount that was still significantly above market rates. Exhausted after more than 14 hours of travel, my fiancé agreed to pay - simply to resolve the situation. At that point, staff suddenly insisted we sign a waiver. When we asked why and said we just wanted to pay and check in, the situation escalated rapidly. We were threatened with the police, refused check-in, and ordered to leave the property. We were left stranded in Punta Cana during peak season, shaken, frightened, and under serious financial pressure. Despite refusing to accommodate us, the hotel kept our money and refused a refund. The entire experience felt coercive, intimidating, and unsafe. We strongly advise others to avoid this hotel.

This was our second time at the Tides, had another great time. As before, the resort is beautiful along with all the staff! The weather was perfect which always helps the trip go well. The only small complaint we had was the food at most places were not warm and seemed dried out many times. I had read that in many reviews but our first time was better. Also Barefoot changed from semi-help yourself to sit down. we went there 3 times and had so many issues. The other way seemed to work better for us. The Food truck was new and was good. We still managed to survive!!!! What was very noticeable this time was all the interaction of the Entertainment team with the guests. We always enjoy their games around the pool areas and beach. They were able to get so many more people to participate, which made it fun. There was darts, corn hole, bowling, baseball, volleyball, cigar making, bingo, blackjack and many more. Some of the crew was led by Supervisor Teddy. Sander, he found us first thing every morning and spend time talking to us(great guy) played Blackjack and many games with him, Franklin, Juan, Edwin, Ninga ran some great games of horseshoes, bowling, cornhole and more, Mayra was so entertaining, she was everywhere day and night always making you laugh. Her and Sander were waiting for us in the lobby the morning we left to say "goodbye." This crew definitely helped make our week special. See you all again! Last, but definitely not least, Francisco (sports bar), a lot has been said about this man, (he remembered me from a year ago), he would see me coming , get the pool table ready, grab me a Coors Light and my wife a drink and say Hi with that great smile. He doesn't do this for a tip in fact many times he would say "no" not necessary. He just loved his job. He is a special person and those who know him know what I mean. The world could use a lot more of Francisco's. See you again my friend. Rick
