The room that we booked was small but still I would say the location of the hotel tops it off.

Giulio, who runs the breakfast room, is the reason to stay here. He remembered every guest by name, not a handful of us but every single one, and took a real interest in each. He made coffees to order, and after a day he began preparing them the moment he saw someone appear at the door. After we had checked out he let my mother sit in the breakfast room to work and quietly kept an eye on her. That is hospitality you cannot install or train for, and it lifted the stay. On location, you cannot get closer to Termini, which is worth a great deal if you have an early train.

The photographs flatter the rooms considerably. Ours was dated, and fresh paint has been applied over that rather than in place of it. The bathroom has not been updated at all. We arrived to find no soap in the shower and the dispenser brackets plainly missing from the wall. Getting access to the gym at the partner hotel took three days and a good deal of persistence. The property manager had confirmed by email before arrival that access was available. At the desk the answer changed repeatedly from one day to the next. On the final morning a member of the front desk staff took it in hand and resolved it in a few minutes, which rather showed it had been straightforward throughout. There are stairs up to reception, so anyone arriving with heavy cases should come prepared. The proximity to the station also brings the character of that area with it.
