Extremely Disappointing Service – Unprofessional and Disrespectful Treatment at Hotel Plaza de Armas, Cusco I have traveled extensively throughout Peru and stayed at numerous hotels in Lima, Cusco, and Arequipa. However, never have I experienced such disappointing, disrespectful, and unprofessional customer service as I did at Hotel Plaza de Armas in Cusco. We were returning to Cusco for another trip and booked two rooms for two nights through Booking.com: one twin room and one queen-bed room, with a reservation search specifically made for three guests. Upon check-in, we were unexpectedly informed that we had to pay an additional USD 20 per night, totaling USD 40, because, according to the hotel's system, our twin room was registered for only one person. We calmly explained the situation and even demonstrated, step by step, how we had made the reservation through Booking.com. We showed that we had specifically searched for accommodation for three people and that the platform had presented us with options for two rooms, including room rates advertised for two adults. Rather than making a genuine effort to understand the discrepancy or help us resolve the issue, Christian, one of the front desk staff members, responded with what we perceived as a mocking smile and repeatedly insisted that it was entirely our fault and our problem with the booking. What kind of hospitality is this? As guests, we expect hotel staff to demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and a willingness to resolve booking discrepancies—not to humiliate customers, dismiss their explanations, or make them feel unwelcome. Our experience with the front desk team, including Christian, Alarcón, and María Calderón, left us deeply disappointed. However, what disturbed us most was not simply the additional USD 40 charge. It was the attitude, the lack of respect, and the way we were treated, which genuinely made us feel discriminated against.
